My ancestor, Patrick Prunty,  emigrated to Prince Edward Island about mid-nineteenth century. He settled there with several brothers. He had several sons and one daughter named Catherine (my great grandmother). Sometime in the 1880s the Patrick Prunty family moved to Denver, Colorado. By the time they got to Colorado, the spelling of their last name had changed to Printy.

I would very much like to learn the parish in Ireland from which they came.

  • Castlegarden has a passenger record for a Patrick Prunty age 13 who arrived in New York onboard the  Centurion on 15 November 1853.

    Country of origin Ireland, port of departure Liverpool

    So if this is your Patrick he was born in 1839/1840

    Searched a bit further using the year of birth above and found the following

     

    Place of baptism Newtownforbes (Roman Catholic)  County Longford.

     

    Church Baptism Prunty Patrick 1839 Co. Longford

    On the same ship a James Prunty arrived  from Ireland probably his older brother age 15  in November 1853. There is also a James Prunty born in  Newtownforbes, county Longford.

     

     

    This site mentions the baptism of  Margaret McGlinn on 2 Feb 1830 , daughter of James McGlinn and Judith Prunty. Sponsors were Patrick Prunty and Elizabeth McCormick, baptism took place in Newtownforbes, they could be related

  • My great grand uncles Patrick (b. 1857 in Dundee, Scotland), John (b. 1866 in Kilmore, Monaghan) and James (b. 1871 in Kilmore Monaghan) lived in Annaghbrack, Kilmore, County Monaghan before they supposedly emigrated to New York. Interestingly I have discovered 2 other sisters; Mary (b. 1867) and Bridget (b. 1870) whose names were mistakenly recorded as Prenty and whose fates are also unknown. It is possible due to a gap in parish records of a few years that there were 4 other sisters but I can find no proof of this apart from hearsay of 6 brothers and 6 sisters. Another brother Micheal (b. 1880) went over to them for a while and returned home later in life. No knowledge survives of where he found his brothers or any communication between them.
