I am trying to trace any members of the jackson family who were stonemasons or stonecutters. My family are believed to have migrated from england to the north of ireland and then down to county limerick . Another branch moved from co limerick to co tipperary. In the 1901 census it gives a jackson family of stone cutters in Kilmallock. During the time of the famine a number of the Jacksons emigrated to the U.S. where examples of their work can be seen today in New York and Washington

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

John

  • Hi John, I am a member of this family from Limerick. Our branch moved around quite a bit building catholic churches, we know we are related to the Kilmallock Jacksons who later moved to Cork. I have traced the family back to the late 1700s to the Cahir/Clogheen area in Co. Tipperary but I am at a loss before that. There may have been some back and forth between these counties but I have no information on this. I would love to hear your history of the family particularily the early stuff. I think this family travelled more than most in Ireland in the past making them interesting but very hard to follow. F

  • Hello Fergal

I went to Foynes last week and met a lovely couple named Tom and Eileen Jackson . I was researching my wife Annes family who were Jacksons from Skeheenarinky in South Tipperary . Would I be right in thinking that they are your parents?. I have been serching for clues about her family and have amassed a lot of information . Annes mothers maiden name was Jackson and she was an only child and was the last person to have the Jackson name despite having numerous uncles all who never married. I have been concentrating on their work as stonemasons in this area and having a certain amount of luck but the clues are scarce. We would  love to meet you and compare notes and possibly fill in some of the blanks. You can concact me at parknakilla@eircom.net or ring me on 0861586017.
