Trying to determine if the above is my Grandfather who immigrated to New York in 1886.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I located an 1867 baptismal record on Roots Ireland (subscription site). See below. Do you have his death certificate and does it list parent's names? I was unable to find any siblings for this particular James Coyle.

  • Hi Roger,

Thanks for checking in on this.  The Cavan Genealogical Society had sent me his information; but Cavan's James Coyle was also in the 1901 Census Record under Anne Coyle (Reilly).  My James Coyle according to New York State Census Records immigrated from Ireland between 1880 and 1886.  He was listed in the New York 1900 Census and his third child was born in 1902.  I have not found any other James Coyles from Cavan in any Records.

Can you locate his death record which might show his parents names?

  • HI Roger,

I finally got the Death Certificate.  Good idea.  James Coyle's parents were Charles Colye and Mary Gallagher.  I have been unable to find anything on them.

  • Searched Baptisms for parishes in County Cavan for 1867.    I was surprised to not see many Coyles.

In the mid-19th century, Donegal had the most Coyle families. In second place was Co. Cavan. There were 190 Coyle households in Cavan in the 1850s.
