Hi,

I have hit a brick wall and after trying many options myself I hope someone here may be able to help or provide search strategies.

I have a marriage 16 Feb 1863 Kilgobinet, County Waterford, Ireland for John Daly and Hanorah Power.

I have Hanorah being baptised 25 Mar 1847 in Dungarvan (but I didn’t add a source or parents) and I am unsure of John’s origins.

Their first 6 children were baptised: 4 in Dungarvan, 1 in Kilgobinet, and 1 in Killidangan.

John Daly was a Miller in Dungarvan (on baptism record of children)

They migrated to South Australia from Plymouth in 1876.

I would really like to find out more about John and Hanorah’s parentage.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Sue

  • Should have said that I know quite a bit about the Daly family here in Dungarvan.

  • Eddie and Sue,
My Daly family were all from Ballymacmague North (and South for some later), Dungarvan Co. Waterford. I believe your John Daly might be part of my family. There were three brothers that I'm aware of; Laurence b. 1891, Thomas b. 1895, and Owen/Eugene 1796, and they were the sons of Daniel Daly and Alice Flynn. There was also a sister Bridget b. 1793.(There were probably more siblings, but those are the only ones I've confirmed.
Laurence was my 3rd great grandfather and he married Honora Quinn. They had eight children.. I'm not sure when your John was born, but I know Laurence and Honora had a son named John who was born in 1827. Owen also had a son, John, but he never married. I'm not sure if Tom had a John.
Killadangan is only about 3 km (1.92 miles) from Ballymacmague.
I have your John and Honora's daughter's birth in Killadangan. They named her Honora which if they followed the Irish naming pattern, could mean her grandmother was Honora Quinn. I haven't come across your John's first born son, so not sure what they named him.
Sue, have you ever done a DNA test?

  • Sorry - I meant to put the sons of Daniel Daly and Alice Flynn were:
Laurence born 1791 (NOT 1891) and
    Thomas born 1795 (NOT 1895)
    Please forgive my Oldtimer's moment
