My grandfather John Dunphy was born in 1894 to James Dunphy and Mary (ne Hagan). he is still shown as living in Hennessey's Road in the 1911 Census but must have moved to England shortly afterwards as he maried my Grandmother Ellen Beales in London in 1919. Sadly he died when my own mother was a baby so our links with Waterford disappeared.

My great-grandfather James Dunphy died in 1951 and his other children were called (we think) Mary, Danile, Johanna, Bridget and Margaret,

Does any of this mean anything to anyone?

Sending best wishes

After searching on the subscription site Roots Ireland in Co. Waterford and not finding any records for children of James Dunphy and Mary Hagan, I looked at the 1901 census record for the family. All family members were born in Co. Kilkenny.

I then went back to Roots Irelandand and found records for the children. However, the mother was Mary Rowe not Mary Hagan.

it appears John was born in late 1893. I will have records for you tomorrow when I have better access to www.irishgenealogy.ie

See third record at this link for birth record for John Dunphy https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_retur…

I did not find a baptismal record for John. One caution, he may have been born earlier in 1893 than December 1. Parents sometimes delayed reporting a child's birth and to avoid a fine they made the child younger when the birth was registered.

The family lived in Murtaghstown townland in Rathpatrick civil parish. Rathpatrick parish is the very last parish in southeast Kilkenny close to the border with Co. Waterford.

I located a September 21 1880 civil marriage record for a Thomas Dunphy and a Mary Rowe. If you look at the bottom left section of the record, you see that James Dunphy and Mary solemnized their marriage so obviously the Registrar made a mistake. The church record shows they were married (James and Mary) in Slieverue RC parish on September 21 1880. Note the civil record shows the names of the fathers of the bride and groom.

The children of James Dunphy and Mary Rowe were as follows: Catherine 1885 Daniel 1886 Mary 1887 Bridget 1889 Johanna 1892 John 1893 Bridget 1896 Margaret 1899 The RC parish was Kilmakevoge.

Since they married in September 1880 and the first child I found in Co. Kilkenny was born in 1885, I assumed there were other children. I found a James in 1881 Daniel in 1882 and a John in 1883. Obviously the Daniel in 1882 and the John in 1883 died young. The family was living in Trinity Without parish in Waterford on Green's Lane.

Let me know what questions you have.
