I am looking for some assistance please.

I am trying to prove or disprove whether John MARTIN a woollen draper in Downpatrick between 1824 and 1852 is related to the MARTINS of Tobermoney.

He was plying his trade at 28 Irish Street, was he in partnership with a Hugh PORTER?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Michelle

  • Hi, Can you supply more information about John and about Hugh?  Approx birth years, names of spouses, parents, children, marriage, death...anything you might have. Thanks.

  • Michelle,

Martin is a very common name in Co Down.  In the 1901 census of the county there were 2116 people with that surname. The name would have been equally common there in the mid 1800s. Obviously they won’t all be related.
