  • Hi,

    Thanks for your message.

Unfortunately, the reality of finding documentation pertaining to births/baptisms/marriages/deaths in Ireland prior to 1800 is that they simply may not exist. However, as John and William came from Dublin, the chances of finding records is greater. The Church of Ireland was the official church of the country at the time and therefore the bulk of information that does survive for earlier periods is often from these registers.

You may find the following websites helpful:

To see what Catholic records are available you can use the irishtimes website, where it gives you an overview of what records are available in specific counties. You can access this here: http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/browse/

You could also check for some record of the family in the Tithe Applotment Books. These are land records pertaining to Ireland 1823 to 1838. You can search these here:

Some other websites which may help you are:

The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx

I hope that this helps. Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.

    Kind regards,
