I am trying to find John Thomas Fitz-Gibbon's parents. Their names are Margaret Stack born about 1813 Cork and John Thomas Fitz-Gibbon who I have no information on. Their son John Thomas Fitz-Gibbon war born 22/9/1836 at Newtown Sandes, Kerry and died in Australia. Any information on his parents would be greatly appreciated as I have been looking for a long time.

  • Colleen,

I think that birthdate you have is incorrect...there IS a John Fitzgibbons born on that same date, but in the RC parish of Killarney. Your ancestor is born in the RC parish of Moyvane...that is where the town land of Newtown is.

On the church records tab of the free site irishgenealogy.ie, this is what I found:

Marriage of Margaret Stack & Thomas Fitzgibbons on 29 Jul 1833. Her residence was given as Moyvane, no residence for Thomas. No father's names given. Witnesses were James Quin & Michael Hanrahan.

Children's births:    Margaret Fitzgibbons, 19 Mar 1836, sponsors: Daniel McGrath & Julia Quin

Thomas Fitzgibbons, Newtown, 6 Jul 1838, sponsors: John Stack & Catherine Stack.

    Regards,

  • Colleen,

I should add that the baptism records for the RC parish of Moyvane began in 1830, so I don't think you will find records for Thomas or Margaret. Since her marriage record stated her residence was Moyvane, I doubt that she was from Cork. The 1901 census records show many Stack families in Moyvane North and South.

  • Thank you Carolyn you have been so helpful. I am a Fitz-Gibbon and that is the way it was always spelt. But I guess it could of been spelt Fitzgibbons.
