I am searching for Patrick Kelley b circa 1844.  He married Mary also b 1844 in Ireland but died in Boston 1941.  They had a daughter Ellen or Nellie who was born 1878/79.  I believe they were from Ballymacward Co. Galway.  They immagrated to Boston sometime after 1880.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards

Dave

  • Dave, my Kelly family is connected. Ellen, daughter of Pat and Mary, both Kelly's, were from Ballymacward. They emigrated in 1891. Ellen married Michael Roberts in 1903. My great uncle, also from Ballymacward, passed away in Chicago in 1903. His body was shipped back to Boston for burial in the Robert's plot. I'M looking for the connection between my great uncle Mike and the Ellen Kelly family.

  • Hi Michael,

Your great Uncle Mike was buried in the Robert's plot by a Bernard Kelley who was a Shoemaker turned Undertaker in Boston about 1900.  I believe Ellen Kelley's family is related to my 3 times Great Grandfather Bartlett Kelley who was born in Boston in 1847.  His parents were Patrick Kelley born 1815 in Ireland died 1847 Roxbury Massachusetts of Scarlet Fever and his Mother I believe was Mary Cluney born 1813 Ireland died 1849 Boston, Massachusetts of Cholera Morbus.  That's the connection I am trying to make but they all are related in some way.  Thanks for any help you can provide.

Dave, please contact me at: mikeandrosek@gmail.com.   I do have much information and connections to the Robert's family and the Kelly's of Ballymacward. In 2012 I contacted Ireland Reaching Out. They set me up with a Paula Kennedy. We decided to put out a query in the Connaught newspaper. My cousin Mary Griffin replied. Long story short we collaborated and our story was chosen for aTG 4 special called Tar Abhaile filmed in 2013 here in Detroit as well as Ballymacward. I did meet my/ our cousins whose family has lived in Keave, Ballymacward for years. They are related by marriage to both Kelly lines in Ballymacward. They are connected to a Bernard Kelly line from Keave and can be found in both the 1901 and 1911 census. The other line, My direct line, live nearby (about a mile) in Corskeagh Trench the village of Carhoon. My great grandparents were James Kelly  a Cooper by trade and Anne Cahill. Michael Kelly and his brother Joseph, my grandfather, emigrated to Boston in 1899 and apparently visited with Ellen and her mother Mary. Ellen married Michael Roberts in 1903 and Michael Kelly moved Chicago in 1903 and Four months later succumbed to TB. Mike was a Cobbler.
