Loftus Family in Galway

Hi –

I’m hoping someone can help me locate information on my great-great-grandparents, Patrick Loftus and Mary Conneeny (or Cuneen).  Ancestry shows them as being born in 1827 Galway but no sources are listed. 

They had three children that I know of and all of them immigrated to San Francisco, California and lived there till they died.

1) Patrick Henry Loftus (1849/1850?-1927 San Francisco, CA) who married Catherine Kenny (1859 Galway, Ireland-1928; baptized in Galway, Ballymacward and Clonkeenkerrill, Ireland) in 1889 in San Francisco (my great-grandparents).  Patrick Henry Loftus probably came to the U.S. around the mid to late 1870s and was naturalized in 1882. His obituary lists Galway. 

2) Mary Loftus (1849?-1892 San Francisco, CA) whose obituary lists the parish of Ballymacward, Galway.

3) James Henry Loftus (1864?-1940 San Francisco, CA) who married Mary Ann Conlan around 1893 in San Francisco.  James immigrated around 1884 and was naturalized in 1900. His obituary lists Galway. His death certificate didn’t list any parents.

Family lore says that Mary’s maiden name is Cuneen and Patrick’s son’s (Patrick Henry) death certificate lists something close to it but the typed info is blurry.  I did get a copy of Patrick Henry and Catherine’s wedding registry from 1889 in San Francisco and Patrick Henry’s mother is listed as Maria Conneeny.

I’ve searched through RootsIreland and other sources but can’t quite find a fit.  The San Francisco earthquake and fire destroyed most local records for San Francisco so I wasn’t able to get a copy of the three children’s naturalization papers or death records for their daughter Mary Loftus.

I would love to come visit Ireland but don’t quite know where to visit in Galway so would appreciate any tips or info you could provide on finding them.  Thanks for your help!  Joan Loftus
