Searching for family of John Logan of Craigbrack.  He is listed as a pensioner in 1849 through 1855.  He married Mary McMaster.  His children include John, Elizabeth, Margaret, Thomas, William, Joseph, Robert and Sarah Jane.  Children were baptized in Church of Ireland.

Elizabeth married William Mulholland in Sept 1852 in Muff.  They moved to Scotland then Durham County, England.

Margaret married William Strawbridge in November 1852 in Muff.

  • John is listed in Griffiths Valuation for 1858 as having plot 3b -  a house and small garden – in Craigbrack. His name remains as tenant until some time between 1860 and 1865 when he is replaced by Thomas Logan, suggesting he had died. I searched for a death 1.1.1864 onwards in the statutory death records but did not see one and therefore suspect John died sometime between 1860 and the end of 1863 (ie before death registration began). You might find his burial in the Church of Ireland records.

Thomas Logan is recorded as tenant of plot 3b until 1881 when the property is noted as “down” ie it had collapsed or been demolished.

If John Logan was a pensioner, then in the mid 1800s that usually indicated he was a retired soldier or sailor (in receipt of a pension). There may be military records for him in the National Archives in Kew or on findmypast.

According to rootsireland, Thomas married Elizabeth McIlhatton of Bolie on 9.9.1858. Thomas’s occupation was a labourer.

I looked at the 1831 census for Craigbrack. The Logan family weren’t living there then.
