Hi,

I'm trying to locate the burial places of my father's paternal and maternal grandparents. I visited Leitrim and the cemetery at St. Ann's in the summer of 2016, but although there were several headstones with the family names Faughnan and Lenahan, none of them belonged to my relatives. Unfortunately, the parish priest was on vacation at the same time so we didn't know whom to ask for help. Here is the information I have:

- Patrick Faughan b. about 1837, d. about 1920. Married to Catherine Shanley. Children were Patrick (b. 1865), Bridget (b. 1867), Eliza (b. 1875), Thomas (b. 1878, d. 1973 in U.S.), and John, my grandfather (b. 1871, d. 1920 in U.S.). I don't know where my great-grandfather was born, but my grandfather's place of birth is listed as Fearnaught.

- Patrick Lenahan b. about 1850, d. about 1925 in Mohill District. Married to Rose Anne Lynch. My grandmother, Mary Ann, was the eldest of 10 (or 11?) children, and was born on February 14, 1875. They lived in Mullagh, so I assume that's where she was born.

    There are too many to keep posting but the point is that NOT ONE gives a graveyard name!!

    I googled cemeteries in Ryff District & Annaduff but had no luck finding either surname in the one cemetery that came up for Annaduff.

  • Thank you so much, Col! Your information matches some of what I've been able to find. I wasn't sure about the two death records for Patrick Faughnan--the first one because I don't know why he would have been buried in Killamaun (that name hasn't come up anywhere in my searching before), and the second one because the year falls before the death date I have and because I don't know who that "Mary Anne Faughnan" would be--possibly a daughter-in-law?

    But I will keep looking! Is it likely that the priest at the Annaduff church might have more information than rootsireland?

  • Killamaun is a small Townland in what I think is Mohill district, but the people you are looking for are probably buried in Annaduff Cemetery, St Mary's graveyard Parish of Drumsna.

    I am related to the Faughnan/Lenaghan connection someway -   I have yet to find the connection ! But I will !

    I think it is through Shanley as my G Granfathers sister was married to a Shanley, of which there are hundreds !

    If and when I find out more I will get back to you, are you on Ancestry ? I am from Leitrim and live in Ireland,

    You need to look at Mohill Rinn or Drumsna dist .

    Annaduff & Fearnaught are I think your relatives.
