Hi All,

My name is Andrea Lynn, Im from Mar del Plata, Argentina & living in Dublin now. I'm looking for information on my ancestor James Lynn.

James Lynn from Ireland arrived in Buenos Aires on 26.08.1873; the name of the steamship was Galileo. That's the info I found in the inmigrant records in Buenos Aires. He married Catherine Berry on 13.02.1879 in Exaltacion de la Cruz, BsAs. In the marriage cert in the church book it says he was born in 1851 & that his parents were John Lynn & Rose Cormati (I think her real surname was Cormick / Cormack). James & Catherine had 8 children including my grandfather Tom?s Lynn

I have been looking for info in different records in so many websites with no luck - I couldn't find his name on passenger lists, ship or port records - I found no records on his parents marriage either. This is like a big mistery to me now!

I would really appreciate any help / piece of advise on this.

Thanks a mil,

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I looked on Roots Ireland www.rootsireland.ie for a James Lynn baptismal record around 1851. The best record I could find was an 1854 record in Co. Westmeath. The father was John but Rose did not work as the mothers name. A number of parishes do not have records back to the early 1850s.

You can use http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/surname/   to see where the surname Lynn was found in the mid-19th century.
