My great Grand father was Bernard Lynagh. Born in Gallow, Summerhill, County Meath 9/10/ 1844. Looking for records/information on any siblings and his Father and Mother believe Peter Lynagh and Mary Sheridan. Welcome back to Ireland Reaching Out!

The subscription site Roots Ireland showed that Bernard had an older brother and sister. See below. I did not find a marriage record. I looked on the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie for possible death records for Peter and Mary. I found a record for a Peter Lynagh in 1885 and his wife Mary died three days later and their deaths are recorded on the same page. See link below. This couplee died in Kells which would have been a good distance from Summerhill. Possibly by coincidence this is another Peter and Mary Lynagh.

Let me know if you have any questions.

  • Roger, thank you, that is great news. I believe the Kells address is just the district registration office and not where they were actually living. My family in the US was always visited by an Uncle Tom. My Mom said he was related to her mother and I thought he was a child of Bernard but the more I look I find Bernard only had two daughters Mary and Catherine(my grand mother Catherine Lynagh). I believe Tom may be of Bernard's Brother John and can now research them here in US.

Is there a directory of names , like a city directory, for people currently living in Summerhill? I am interested to see if any Lynagh's are still in the area.

I will now move on the see where Peter Lynagh, Bernard's Dad, came from. Pete

  • Pete:

The two death records show that this Peter and Mary were living on Bective St. in Kells Town. (see the far left of the records). That is why I raised the issue of two Peter and Mary Lynagh couples.

Not aware of a directory for Summerhill.

I did check the onlibne Irish phone book which is a partial list of phone users and only three Lynaghs listed all in Athboy.

  • Roger, I see your point on the possibility of two Lynagh couples. I also see on my map Athboy, being between Kells and Summerhil.   I have found a Peter Lynagh born in Clondalkin, Dublin in 1824. Father Richard Lynagh , mother Mary Lynagh but that would put him(Peter) at only 15 when John was born in 1839. If you believe all the dates. Trying to establish them as grand parents to Bernard.  I guess my research continues.Trying to get things lined up for a trip in 2020., maybe late 2019. Is there a way to get the addresses of the three Lynagh families in Athboy to write and see if they are in any way connected to my side?  Thanks for all, Peter

  • Peter:

Go to https://www.eirphonebook.ie/q/name/   enter Lynagh and County Meath and then check the TAB for Resedential. As it turns out there is a duplicate so two Lynaghs in Athboy on the sam e street.

Keep us posted regarding your trip.
