Edward and Elizabeth Reid emigrated to Canada to Grey County, Ontario, Canada. Their first child Elizabeth was born in 1853. Our family did not record any written history but it was said they came from Southern Ireland. My Aunt actually did take a trip to Southern Ireland but did not uncover any records. I learned the parents names of Elizabeth from a second marriage certificate dated Feb. 24, 1880 at Collingwood Ontario Canada.

I would love to be able to complete the storey and would appreciate any help.

Blessings from Canada,

Garry Reid

  • The name Edward Reid is very common in Ireland and without the wife?s maiden name it?ll be impossible to trace the couple in Ireland.  Glancing for a moment at the marriage indexes for 1851 and 1852 I can see 4 or 5 Edward Reids who married women with the forename Elizabeth.

If you have the 1853 birth in Canada, perhaps it gives the mother?s maiden name? Or perhaps the child?s marriage or death cert contains that information?

The other important piece of information is what denomination was the couple? RC marriages weren?t entered into the civil records until 1864 but non RC were recorded from April 1845 onwards. Do you know what denomination they were?
