Hello!  I am researching my grandfather's family from Ahascragh.  They are listed in the 1901 census as living in the Townland/Street of Doon Upper in the Parish of Fohenagh.  My great grandparents are Peter and Anne Naughton Larkin.  Peter was born in 1856 and Anne in 1861. They had 7 or 8 children.  My grandfather went to America, but I believe a couple of brothers stayed in Ireland - Thomas and Peter.  If you could please, I'd love to know anything about this family (Naughtons, too) and if there are any relatives left in Ahascragh?  Also, how far from the village of Ahascragh is this area?

Thanks very much.

Best,

Aimee

According to Google Maps, Doon Upper is about 5 kilometers from Ahascragh. I could not tell if you found the 1911 census. http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Galway/Clonbrock/Doon_…

There were 9 children at that time.

There were also Naughtons in Doon Upper possibly Anne was the daughter of Bridget Naughton living in that townland.

I checked the online Irish phone book but there were no Larkin listings in Ahascragh. However, only a small percentage of phones are listed in the phone book.

  • Thank you, Roger.  I appreciate the information and help.  I know that a brother, Peter, stayed on the family farm and was there in the 1970's.  I have relatives that visited him there.  I think his wife was Kathleen, but I am not 100% sure.

    Thanks again.
