  • Coleman Mogan is a fairly unusual name. His birth c 1861 is before the start of statutory birth registration (1864) so you won?t find a birth certificate for him. You might find his baptism in church records.

I searched the 1901 census for Mogan in Co Galway. There are 101 Mogans. I spotted a single Coleman Mogan in the townland of Cornarona:

    & in 1911:

Irish families often used the same names again and again. With this being an unusual name, it?s possible that this 1901/1911 family are related to your ancestors. If you have no other leads, it?s probably worth investigating. Cornarona is in the parish of Killannin (west of Galway city). The RC records for that parish start in 1834, so you should be able to search the baptismal records to see if your Coleman came from that parish. The parish records don't appear to be on-line anywhere. Galway FHS seem to have a copy of the early records covering the 1860s. The originals should still be with the parish. You'll need to contact one of those two sources to check them.

    mjford,  Hello and well Met.
Coleman Mogan was my 2nd Great Uncle.  (My great-grandmother's brother).
I'm a decendent of Margaret Mogan and George Clark, I'd love to talk to and share information about the Mogan/Mongan line.
