I believe my father was of Irish descent. The only lead I have is that his family may have settled in a town in Australia named  Colac, in the state of Victoria.  His name was William Francis Dowling

  • Hello from Canada,

My great-grandfather was a Dowling (Owen), from Naas, Co. Kildare, who seems to have died c1900 in Dublin. Too bad for us, Dowling is a rather common Irish name, plus with several variants.

Have you considered NDA testing? It might be very useful, esp. as you have little info. to go on. I have every intention of doing this, probably via a US company called Family Tree as I recently read a book by someone who used that service and found it extremely useful. The introductory level of testing would probably help you find some cousins, so moving on your search.

Anyway, best of success in your effort.
