We are looking for relatives of Cecilia Kane who married John P. Peacan. They lived in Errisbeg East, Roundstone. They are listed in both the 1901 and 1911 census. John was an artist.

At least two of Cecila's sisters went to the U.S.  One married a Mr Day and their descendents live in Philadelphia.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Mary

  • Hi Col,

re: relatives of Cecilia Kane. Her parents were Phillip Kane and Mary Griffin. She had a brother Daniel born 1864 and at least two sisters: Honoria, who married Albert Day in Philadelphia and Ellen, who lived in Philadelphia but did not marry.

John P. Peacan died in Rounstone in 1915. His brother, Luke, was a doctor and went to Argentina where he married and had 4 children.

I am hoping that the additional info. might ring some bells!

    Thank you. Mary.

  • Hi Mary

Have attached a link with an Errisbeg East map

    http://www.celtic-knot-creator.com/townland/galway/moyrus/errisbeg-east/

I searched for Cecilia Kane birth/baptisms on www.rootsireland.ie/ & found an 1894 birth in Roundstone. However when I searched with the parents' names included there were no matches.

    http://ifhf.rootsireland.ie/quis.php?page=1&confirmPageView=Y

There are 1481 Kane birth baptism records in Galway but no Phillips

There are 225 Mary Griffin birth/baptism records also.

I checked the marriages of Kanes and Griffins and the only possible one is Edward Cain to a Griffin in 1865 but it was Galway East - not Roundstone!

I couldn't find a Daniel Kane but there are 47 Honor Kanes.

There is a baptism record of John Phillip Peacan 1890 in Galway & the parish is Roundstone.

You need to purchase credit to view the full record on rootsireland which MAY have the parents' names (some do / some don't).

The public Kane & Peacan member trees on ancestry only have the info you have so no joy there!

    Col

  • Thank you Col for your response.

Familysearch.org lists Cecilia's birth as 1868 and Daniel's as 1864. I checked marriage record for Cecilia and John P.Peacan in 1889 in Roundstone as listed in rootsireland and Cecilias parents were listed.

Thanks again for your help.Mary.thank you for link to map.M

  • Hi Mary.  I am following up on a very old message.  I have recently, with DNA testing, starting researching part of this line and stumbled in to your post.  I was not sure if you were looking for connections in the US, in Ireland, or in general.  But I would be happy to chat about my research and connections that I have noted thus far.  For example, you are mentioning children of Philip Keane and Mary Griffin, specifically your Celia/Cecelia and the siblings you note were ones I did not have but I discovered at least a few more: Barbara Keane married to John McDonough and Patrick Keane married to Barbara Mongan.  It's the Keane/McDonough line that I have more thoroughly traced.

Would love to chat more.  My email is fitzgerald_terry@yahoo.com

    Warm regards

    Terry
