My great great grandmother, Sarah Maher was born in Ireland around 1830. She likely left Ireland after the Great Famine and travelled to Albany, New York, USA. She married Joseph Moran and had 2 children in Albany, NY (1865 & 1870) before moving to Chicago, Illinois, USA.

Her obituary was printed in the Chicago Daily News. It states: "Moran, Sarah, Dec. 27, 1898, mother of James, and Mrs. Sarah Sullivan, native of Cappaghwhite, Co. Tipperary. Funeral from resid., 2410 Railroad ave., North Evanston to Calvary. Albany (NY) papers please copy.

This is my only lead back to Ireland. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Cappawhite is a RC parish located in the Civil Parish of Toem. Records for Cappawhite begin in 1815 for baptisms and 1804 for marriages. I checked rootsireland.ie but there are 13 baptism records for a Sarah Maher in Tipperary between 1825 and 1835. As it is a subscription site I am limited in what I can see. Perhaps a look at familysearch.org (free) could yield some results, though it would take a while to go through all of the 88 records listed there, but you may see a parish name more readily

    Best wishes
