Im coming to Ireland from California to meet my Irish Cousins in April 2014.please help me find them. I saw a posting from Pete Mannion about his Uncle Colman Mannion from Rosdubh passing in the Irish Abroad online. I think our lineage may be connected. My great Grandfather Coleman Mogan was born in Rosdubh in 1861, married Mary Agnes Madden from Tipperary in American and died in Chicago.

  • Hi, I Have been researching the families of Festus Davis and Sarah/Celia Mongan for a friend in England.

PLEASE NOTE THAT AGE'S ON CENSUS FORMS CAN BE MISLEADING AND VARIED,SO PLEASE GIVE OR TAKE A FEW YEARS ON INFO BELOW.

From the various Cert's I have aquired so far I have gleaned this information, and am hoping someone may fill in the missing pieces, this is the info I have from 1901-1911 census plus Birth-Marriage-Death certificates and numerous visits to General records office (which has now moved across Dublin city from Irish life mall to Werburgh St,beside Christchurch cathedral)

Im also interested in the Conroy family 'Bartly Conroy' born  Renvyle 1896, father Bartly mother Annie Mulkerrins.

Festus Davis was born circa 1836, he died aged 75 on 5th Sept 1920 in Cashleen (Mary Davis daughter-in -law registered his death)

Festus married Sarah/Celia Mongan  circa 1860 as it gives 51yrs married on 1911 census with 7 children born 5 surviving.

Im unsure regs Sarah Davis death, but a high possibilty she died in Cloonshannville Frenchpark Castlerea in 1912 aged 75.

Festus was a widower when he died in 1920, Sarah was with him on 1911 Census, so  I searched death info for Sarah /Celia Davis from 1911 to 1920 and the only one I came up with that would fit the description was Sarah Davis at Castlrea.

The 5 Davis children I believe to be the following (im open to correction)

Mary Davis/Faherty..Born 1st September 1864, Married Patrick Faherty & Tully in1890, 11 children in 1911,9 with them on census 1911 are.

    Patrick 21, Anne17,Manus,15, Maggie 13, Bridget 11, John 10, Martin 8, Joseph 3, Colman 0 (infant).

    John Davis... born 30June 1867-1954..Married a Catherine ?

Ellen Davis... born  24th June 1870...(on her birth cert it gives Festus and Celia Mannion as parents, but I think this is error) not much info on Ellen apart she was on school roll for Eagles nest school in 1880

Joseph Davis..born 2nd May 1873, Jospeh I believe was married 3 times, first wife Catherine Burke, circa 1894, they had 6 children and Catherine died circa 1906, the Grandmother took care of children.

Joe remarried circa 1909 to Bridget Coyne, they had one child I know of, Bridget aged 1 in 1911 census, I believe Joe may have then went to The U.S or Canada where he may have remarried.

Festy..Born 1876, was on Census form with parents 1901.aged 23.

Festy/Festus jnr  married a Mary Conroy they had 6children.

Festy/Festus jnr died in 1947, Mary in 1953.

    Patrick 1921-1988...Martin 1923-2002...Mary 1925-2012...Celia 1927 (living)...John 1929-1986...McDara 1931 (living).

I also have some info on the Conroy family line.

During my search I have taken note of DEATHS of the Davis names and ages registered in The Clifden area  from 1911 -1919, there apprx 15.

I can be contacted by email donald561@htmail.com
