Looking for any connections to Margaret "Peg" Delany (1795-1865) , daughter of Lawrence Delany. Her tombstone in Troy NY states:  Erected by the sons of Margaret Brereton to the memory of their beloved mother who departed this life November 1, 1865, aged 70 years. A native of the townland of Rasbourn in the parish of Thylon, Queens County, Ireland may her soul rest in peace. Amen.

Best guess is “Thylon” referred to on the tombstone is actually the parish of “Kyle” and townland  “Rossbaun” ), which is  close to the “Rasbourn” noted on the tombstone.

Peg Delany married James Brereton on February 6, 1826. The witnesses to their marriage were Larry Delany and John Dooley. Their marriage is recorded in the “Roscrea and Kyle Parish Marriages” register maintained by the Roman Catholic diocese of Killaloe.

James Brereton and Peg Delaney Brereton had at least  six children: Martin (1831-1896), Mary (1833-1905), John, Michael (b. 1835), Lawrence (1835-1906), James II (1839-1894) and Thomas Brereton/Brearton (1840-1894). All but Michael (as far as I can find) immigrated to Troy NY before 1861.

Thanks for any assistance!

Yours,

Jude

I searched for the baptismal records for the children and only found the records for Mary and Michael in 1833 and 1835 respectively. The baptismal records were in the RC parish of Kinnitty in Co. Offaly. The townland shown on both records was Beagh which is in Roscomroe civil parish. Presumably, the family moved after Michael waa born and their new RC parish no longer has records back to the 1830s. Also, the Kinnitty RC baptismal records start in 1833 so records for older children would not be available.

  • Thank you! And yes, I've completed DNA testing. Is there an Offaly group for DNA on this site?

No, we don't maintain DNA data on our site. I checked Facebook because there are a number of county groups but unfortunately no group for Co. Offaly.

Don't no which company you tested with but you can upload your data to Gedmatch www.gedmatch.com  You can generally upload your data to other companies sites for free.
