Have found baptism for my 2x grandfather valentine lowry  1837 and other siblings  from 1835 onwards tried to find marriage for james lowry and elizabeth rogers no success hope someone could help

  • hi emma, these are the baptism for  valentine baptism jul 1837 trinity within co.waterford,james 1841 &micheal 1835 st patricks,co.waterford,mary ann 1844 st johns co waterford also a mary lowry 1847 also at st johns could you also explain what is meant by sponser 1and 2

    I have tried to find a marriage for james and elizabeth but no success all I know is that my gtgrt grandfather  valentine married in pontypridd south wales 1865 to a catherine daley and when he died she married his brother thomas as of yet i have been unsuccesful in finding birth or baptisms for thomas  there was one on ireland roots same parents names this is in co down on all the others mothers surname has been included except on thomas which is why im unsure if its the same family

    Sponsor 1 and 2 refers to the child?s godparents.

    With regards to James and Elizabeth?s marriage cert, you really need to know where they got married to make it easier to find it. Generally, Catholic weddings took place in the bride?s parish of origin. Do you know anything about Elizabeth and where she was born?

    Do you know when they were married? If they were married after 1864 (when civil registration became mandatory) there will be a civil record of it. Civil records are available from the General Register?s Office. Here are their contact details:

    Thanks for replying I dont know where they were married its only recently I found marriage for my gt granmother and found that her father was valentine and from his marriage cert got fathers name I had an inkling that valentine was a family name as my dad was valentine and my gt uncle was also valentine  I remember from being told as a child that one of my granfathers cousins was a footballer not sure of first name just lowry I thought lowry was an un common name until i started searching  thanks for those links I will have a look at them
