I am doing research on Jane McDonough and James Lavin. I found a record of their marrage license in Perry County, Ohio for December 1841.

  • Hi SPS,

There is a baptism record of Jane MacDonagh 1821 Dublin on www.rootsireland.ie/

I took a guess at the birth year and searched 1820 + - 5 years. The record will have the parish and MAY have parents' names. You need to purchase credit to view the record but they have 40% off at the moment.

However for James Lavin in the same years there are 10 matches none of which are i Dublin.

Do you have approximate birth years for them? Their ages may be on the marriage record, in US censuses or if their age is given on their death record can be calculated.

    Happy New Year!

  • Col,

Thanks for your response. I have no clue as to a year of birth for either of them. But yes, would guess sometime between 1810-1820 assuming they were at least 20 years of age by the time they married. The marriage record I found in the court house Perry County, Ohio only says December 2, 1841 and lists their names.

I can find no death record for either of them. I believe they had a child born in 1844. Her name was Catherine. I found her death certificate and it indicates her father "James Lavin" was born in Ireland. It gives no name for her mother but indicates that her mother was from Ireland.

I am really looking for people with the last name "McDonough". Those that would have possibly left Ireland in the early 1800s, gone to England and then to the U.S.

Any thoughts as to where to search would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

  • Hi sp,

Do you have access to ancestry.com? The Lavin public member tree looks promising.

If not if you provide an email address I can attach and send it.
