JAMES MCGOWAN alias SMITH (Smith anglicised version of McGowan) - MONAGHAN?

Born circa 1771 - Monaghan or nearby county? Died 1814 Sydney, NSW, Aus. CAPITALLY CONVICTED (death sentence) at Monaghan Assizes on Tuesday 5 April, 1796 as JAMES SMITH with HENRY WINTER & PATRICK MCKIERNAN.  

Attacking the dwelling house of GEORGE BELL and firing several shots at night.  "ALL ORANGE MEN".

Were to be executed Monday 25 April. Unknown how, but James' sentence was commuted to Transportation for Life, then changed to 7 years after arrival in Sydney, Aus. on ship BRITTANIA (1) in 1797. Unknown what happened to WINTER & MCKIERNAN.. 

Had two living daughters MARY & CLARA to ISABELLA CLARKSON, convict off the ship SPEKE in 1808.  Isabella had relationships with five gentlemen in all. JOSEPH BUCKLEY, RICHARD LYONS, JAMES MCGOWAN, THOMAS SAUNDERSON/SAUNDERS/SANDERS & JOHN LUKE.
