From Frank Drumm:

Researching Murty McGrath, born 18 Nov 1888, in Upper Derrynananta, who parents were Patrick McGrath and Cecelia Carrigan.  I suspect his grandfather was Charles McGrath because there were only two McGraths living in that townland and he had a brother, born 1882, whose name was Charles.  Charles (1882) appears to be the first child of Patrick and Cecelia and was likely named after his grandfather.  I'm looking for more info on the McGraths and any info on the Carrigan clan.  Thank you.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Roots Ireland had  records for eleven children of Patrick McGrath and Cecelia Carrigan. They had the baptism for Murtagh in November 1887. I did not see a church or civil marriage record for Patrick and Cecelia anywhere in Ireland which makes me wonder if the records were lost or they married in England. Unfortunate we can't find a civil marriage record in Ireland because it would show the name of Patrick's father. I assume you have the 1901 and 1911 census records for the family but they are below. Patrick died in 1917. Cecelia died later but I was unable to locate the record.

  • Cecelia died in NYC on 7 Aug 1929. I found her through a ship manifest.  She was accompanied by her son Charles, whose wife had died in Ireland in May, 1928. That info I got from a naturalization application.  Her father, it is reported on the death certificate, was Murtie Carrigan and her mother Rose McGovern.  I'd still be interested in her family.  Many thanks for researching for me.  If I can help you in some way, you have only to ask.  Frank Drumm

I did not find a baptismal record for Cecelia but Roots Ireland did have two records which could be siblings. The townland is likely either Corratober Lower or Corratober Upper in Killinagh civil parish.
