  • michael

i would like to confirm before we go any further that i was making this enquiry on behalf of a third party and this party is trying to connect with the meade family tree not myself and to date there is no connection proven having got that out of the way i discover the following

your information is different from the record given by the bols-berney-meade genealogy site which i assume you have looked up

whilst your information is different it seems to be very similar to defy the odds for a probable connection  rather than a possible connection

so your family is probably connected with the meades but with the following warning

i have requested information from this bols-berney-meade site to confirm or deny certain details they have stated and i have received no reply to ascertain the documenatary evidence they used

so with all those factors in the mix i take it that you are using different documentary evidence records for your families genealogy records than bols berney meade

    you stated

philip meagh b1310 buttevant ireland d 1364 buttevant ireland --what is your documentary record evidence

as against bols berney meade who state

philip meagh b1315 buttevant ireland d 1361 buttevant ireland 1st generation

michael it then seems that both of you concur for the next 5 generations david through john i john ii william i and john iii and it is here that your family line spilts with my third party line the seventh generation

here john iii has two sons james and william ii your line is with william ii the third party line is with james which sorts out the two meade family lineages concerned

then there is the matter of your lineage which is correctly recorded until the 14th generation ie william ii john iv john meade i sir john meade ii john meade iii col andrew meade

bols berney meade state there are two recorded histories written about this col andrew meade which i have not seen but presume that you are aware of them

col andrew meade is followed by david meade the 14th generation

and this is where it gets tricky

bols berney meade do not record your thomas meade born 1737 in their record so i have to ask the question what is your documentary evidence record for this birth and if it stands up then present it to andrew bols and see if you get a reply from him

looking at the record of bols berney which i must reiterate is only one of many on record and is not the gospel on this matter there is no birth for 1737 but there are births before and after this date and some of them take place in nanesedmond county virginia so that is why i would say that your lineage is more of a probable than a possible

but again i must state your documentary evidence starting now from your own birth and working backwards how many documents do you have in your possession to affirm all the facts you have stated in your response to my original enquiry and as long back as you have the documents you can definitely confirm your lineage

so i take it you can have the documentary evidence of your lineage back to david b1710 or col andrew meade b1655 and if you have then inform bols berney meade site and any other sites you know

if you dont have the documents then i would try and find out from bols berney meade is there a possibility that there could be other children that they have not recorded belonging to david meade and if so what is the required proof to enable your family to be placed on the tree

and they may confirm for you that they have provisional evidence to confirm your lineage but not proven evidence which may assist you in your research- there is a huge meade family tree to help you

in the meantime i await my third parties proven link to this family line and if you happen to discover the proof of the link let me know by return

  • Thank you William--My documentation is a bit scattered as this is my first attempt at geneoloy and I am learning as I go along.  I understand your message and I will begin to retrace my steps to find the documentation that led me to the conclusions I have reached.

I, like the 3rd party you spoke of--am not saying my tree is the absolute correct one.  I have seen many family trees on the Meade's that differ in many ways, and I continue to update my tree when I find something new that tells me my conclusions were in error.

The main area which differs--Some trees I have seen have Thomas as Col Andrew Meades son--some say he didn't have a son named Thomas....  It gets really confusing at that point in time, and I think I may have just weighed the evidence that Andrew had a son named David who in turn had a son named Thomas and went with that because 2-3 other lines came to the same conclusion.  My documentation on that is weak, but I will seek to rememdy that in the near future.

I do remember a mention from one site that the information came from  Source: "Abridged Compendium of American Genealogy Vo. 1"  See the following website.  http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/w/i/l/Regenia-D-Willmann-campbell/WEBSITE-0001/UHP-1263.html

This site shows Andrew having a son named Thomas--as well as a son named David who had a son Thomas.

I have recently found some papers "The Chaumiere Papers" at a site that is very interesting reading about Andrew Meade and his son and grandson--both David's...  http://kdl.kyvl.org/cgi/t/text/text-idx?c=kyetexts;cc=kyetexts;view=toc;idno=B92-95-28578217  At the very least it is really interesting reading about the Meade family around the time of the Revolutionary War.

Those papers are notes and papers from the Meade family--some from David Sr, some from David Jr.  Although they do not prove or dis-prove my family tree as far as I can tell--they make some great reading.  I have yet to break down these papers as they mainly concern David Meade Jr--who if I am correct would be the brother of Thomas Meade.  In any case the papers do not go into any of David Meade Sr's other children, so they have not helped as far as proof.

Anyway!!  I don't want to bore you with this too much.  I am just really looking for answers and proof around the time of Andrew--David--Thomas to tell me exactly how the puzzle fits together, OR if I need to completely break off that branch from my family tree.  THAT would stink!  haha
