Michael Cronin was born in Limerick around 1880/1884, father James, a Joiner/Builder. Michael married Maggie Brereton in Lower Broughton, Lancashire on 3/8/1917. Died 1/1/1939 in Salford North. Any data re birth of Michael or birth/marriage of James would be appreciated.

    Attached are the civil birth records for both Michael's birth (1879) and his parents'marriage (1875). The residence for both records is Gortavalla, Doon, Limerick.

    James' occupation at the time of his marriage is a carpenter, and a laborer at the birth of Michael.

  • Do you have the maiden name of James's wife ? Did Michael have any siblings ? Do you know the area in Limerick where they came from ? Any more information would be helpful, I found two death certs for a James Cronin in Limerick , the first was a mason and the second a cabinet maker so it is hard to know without more background.

    I forgot to mention that the marriage record shows his surname as "Croneen", both in the original document, and transcription. At the bottom of the civil record in the section "this marriage was solemnized....", you'll see his surname as Cronin. Bridget's surname also has two variations (Maher & Meagher) in both sections of the civil record.

    Based on the information Carolyn provided above, I found a birth record for a James Cronin living in Gortavalla, Doon, Limerick. He was baptized on August 2, 1852, parents- James Cronin and Mary Shanahan. Witnesses were James Collin and Margaret Bourke.

    I did not find a marriage record for James and Mary. I found James had a brother Thomas born in 1854.

    In the 1901 and 1911 censuses of Gortavalla, Doon, Limerick, James is not listed. He might have died between Joseph's birth 1898 and 1901. Bridget is listed with some of her children.
