Looking for information on Michael Hanrahan and Bridget Cunningham, possible from Kilkerry Co..  Had a son Patrick born 17 March 1837 who immigrated to U.S.A. about 1855.  Patrick was Catholic

In the U.S. he married Anna Marie Kelly, possible from North Ireland.  Family stories say her parents disowned her when she married.

Stories indicated they met on ship, have only found one ship with these two names.

If anyone has any information to help me know what parish Patrick was from, brother, sisters, etc.

Greatly appreciate it.

I went to www.askaboutireland.ie to look at the 1852 Griffiths Valuation records for Co. Kerry. I assumed that Michael Hanrahan was still living in 1852.

I searched for Michael Hanrahans in Co.Kerry and got the response in the link below. I got 10 replies but in reality I only focused on four records where a Michael Hanrahan was a tenant. Look at records 1, 3, 5 and 7. Hit the Details icon for thos four records to see the townland and civil parish where these four Michael Hanrahans lived. For those four records, look at the next column (Original page). I looked for other farmers with the surname Cunningham. Only the last record (number 7) had Cunninghams listed in a nearby townlands (Kilbaha Middle and Kilbaha North). Possibly one or more of the three listed Myles, Daniel or Timoth Cunningham were related to Bridget Cunningham.

Just a theory but I would focus on Gortdromasillahy townland in Murher civil parish as the location where your Hanrahans lived.

Appreciate your effort.  Trying to nail things down next few months since my oldest son and I are going to Ireland for a couple weeks this summer.

  • I was informed that there is a Kilkenny record of a Patrick Hanrahan born 1833 (4 years earlier than record in his U.S. docs) to a Michael Hanrahan and Bridget (no last name).

Wonder if this is the one?  What city?  What RC parrish?

I checked Roots Ireland www.rootsireland.ie and there is an 1833 baptismal record for a Patrick Hanrahan born to Michael and Bridget in the Urlingford RC parish. By the way, I inserted Cunningham and that is not the mothers surname.

Roots is a pay site to view a transcription of a church record.
