Hi Everyone,
This is my first message so I hope that I'm doing it right.
I'm looking for information on Michael Murphy from County Cork, Father - Cornelius Murphy, Mother - Margaret Roach and Catherine Roach (Roche) from County Clare, Father - Patrick Roach, Mother - Maria Cunningham.
Michael Murphy married Catherine Roach in Melbourne, Australia on the 13th July 1858. Their daughter, Catherine (Kate or Kitty) Murphy married Joseph Peter Moriarty.
Unfortunately, that is the only information that I have on them and would really appreciate any assistance that anyone can give me.
Thank you,
Dawn Lawry

Hi Dawn,
Thanks for your message. I hope that someone with some info gets in touch.
It may be difficult to find more information without more specific places of origin in CLare and Cork. Most Irish record sources- church records, land records, census records- are based on specific locations. Until you know a specific location within Ireland, preferably a parish or placename, it may be difficult to do anything more with these records.
Do you have any documentation pertaining to the family that mentions any place names in Clare and Cork at all? This can include wills, marriage/death records, census records, letters, diary entries etc.
There are some places where you can search online, however these websites do not have complete collections:
www.familysearch.org has a huge database of genealogical records including some church records for Ireland.
www.rootsireland.ie have a large collection of Irish Church records, however you have to pay to use this site.
http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/ have begun a project to upload Irish church records to their site free of charge. However so far only some counties have been uploaded. Clare has not yet been covered and only some parts of Co. Cork have been added so far.
Sometimes you can use the land records to help tie a person to a specific place. Unfortunately, there were a lot of Cornelius Murphy?s recorded in both the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) and Griffith?s Valuation (1848-64)
Patrick Roach/Roche in Clare was less common:
Unfortunately, these land records do not contain any genealogical info so it is impossible to know which if any are relevant to you.
Here are some more general websites that may be helpful:
