I am interested in finding out more about my greatx2 grandparents.  James Morgan was born in Durrow c1810 and could have been son of either Henry or Richard Morgan - more likely Henry as that name appears in his descendants.  He married Frances Veacock (born in Waterford in 1823) in 1844.  They emigrated to Liverpool between 1852 and 1859.  He is down on the 1861 census as a saddler.  It seems as if the Veacocks were also living in Durrow as the records show the baptism of Lydia and Hiram Veacock in 1841 - I think it may have been in the Church of Ireland church.  John Veacock (born 1795) and his wife Ann (parents of the above) moved to Liverpool sometime between 1842 and 1850.

Thankyou

  • Joining this conversation nearly 7 years later, having just come across it. My g-g grandfather was James's brother John. So, kesig, we both have their father as g-g-g grandfather. However, I think their father was Richard rather than Henry. There's an 1808 baptism record for a John Morgan giving father's name as Richard Morgan; and there's an 1810 baptism record for James Morgan giving father's name as "R. Morgan". Not 100% certain as there were obviously several Morgans around in Durrow at the time, but it looks highly likely. Both John and James ended up in Liverpool with their families.

Thank you, seanmacd, for the transcriptions of the C of I headstones. I was in Durrow last January but couldn't find any way into the churchyard.
