I am also following DNA lines and I find it frustrating because the records are not there to back up the science and at this stage I have had to remain genetic cousins with them.  But in the hope that someone in Co. Cavan recognises this family you could write to The Editor of The Anglo Celt through linda@anglocelt.ie you may reach a wider local audience. There is no guarantee they will publish your story but  if you have photos it would help add to the story.

Thank you Carmel for responding.  I will write to the editor in hopes someone will recongize the names and respond.  Thomas Brady made quite a name for himself in Canada and is mentioned in a published reference book which helped me know more about his life after arriving in Canada in the 1820's.  Hopefully this will stir up some interest and help in my research. Hi Suse, that sounds like a plan, a story about someone who has made a name for themselves & pictures should do it.  Tell me when you send it in and I will keep an eye out for when (fingers crossed) they publish it.

Everything slowly opening up here in Ottawa and masks have become mandatory for all indoor activities and outside activities when distancing is not possible.  For the last few months I have been sewing masks and donating them to family, friends, local doctors for their patients, hospitals for visitors and for city of Ottawa organizations.

      I am a descendant of Andrew Brady (he may have been John Andrew) and Mary Rosana McGuire. He was born about 1780 in County Cavan, but I do not know which parish. Their sons John and Michael were born about 1813 and 1818 respectively, also at unknown parish in County Cavan, but possibly Urney. I have never located a definitive paper record. I have DNA matches in many nearby parishes: Bailieborough, Drung, Templeport, Larah, Ballymachugh, etc. 

     Their son John Brady married Catherine nee 

Brady born about 1822 whose parents are unknown. She was also from County Cavan, in an unknown parish. John and Catherine had two children born in Ireland, Philip Brady and Catherine Brady 1843 and 1845 also in an unknown parish in County Cavan. In 1847 they immigrated to New York, then Canada and finally to Webster County, Iowa. I have hunted for all these birth records and parishes to no avail. John never actually naturalized in the U.S., so no records there. His son Philip did, but he said he was from Canada because he had lived there since he was a young child.

I have done my DNA through ancestry.  Where have you done yours? 

Wouldn't it be great if your Andrew is somehow connected to my Andrew Brady married to Nelly Lawlor.   The son of one of Andrew's brothers.   Andrew and Nelly had two sons that I know of Thomas born around 1780 and John born around 1797.   John married in Prescott County, Ontario Canada after he arrived in the early 1820's and it is through his marriage licence that I know he and his brother Thomas were born inn County Cavan.  

I will check out the book about your descendants.

       I do have DNA data on Ancestry, but I doubt the match will show since it is so many generations back and Ancestry DNA no longer posts cMs less than 7 or 10? Have you submitted your results to Gedmatch.com? If not, I suggest that you submit your raw DNA data from Ancestry to Gedmatch.com. It's a free site and it will allow us to go very distant and as low as 3 cMs. Since the closest match is to my 2nd great grandparents our match is likely very distant. With the Gedmatch data you can also submit it to FaceBook DNA sites for County Cavan and get more possible cousin matches that way too.

       The family history books are great, but only for life after arriving in America. The info on Ireland is sparse even after the author, my mother, hunted for them in Ireland two different times!
