Hi,

Michael James O'Connell, b. 1791, Loghill, and his wife Margaret Nowlan, b. 1798 Loghill, and their 9 children came to Australia, with the help of Lord Monteagle, in 1839 on the ship Aliquis. They lived on a three acre farm in Lisready Cripps.

Michael's father was James O'Connell, b. 1770, a butcher in Loghill. His mother was Mary Sheehan, b 1770.

Love you hear from any descendants.

  • Hello,

I have O'Connells from Shanagolden. I would love to hear more about your records and what you have found.

I have hit a dead-end with Daniel O'Connell who was a baker in Shanagolden from around 1854-1874.

I have no info on his parents or siblings.

    Would love to share info!

  • Hi Wendy,

Sorry this has taken a while - could not access this site properly.

Daniel is not a family name for my O'Connells.

Michael James' mother was Mary Sheehan, and his father James, both born 1770. James, the butcher, died 1826 and Mary d 1828. I think MJ had a brother Patrick and one called Thomas. But I do not know anything else.

Michael's mother was Margaret Nowlan, b 1798 in Loghill and d 1874 in Australia. her father was James Nowlan and he mother Margaret King, but I have no info on those.

Lots of info on the descendants, but shall wait until we see if there is any connection before I bore you with those details.

    Hope this helps

    Judy

  • Hi Judy,

Your Michael O'Connell's brother Patrick was one of the witnesses at the marriage of my 2nd great grandparents Michael Naughton and Bridget Enright in 1832. Michael Naughton was born in Loughill about 1815.

Michael Naughton immigrated to Australia after his cousin John Hurley paid his deposit. It seems to me that it may not be pure coincidence that after he stayed for awhile  with John Hurley in Campbelltown he then moved to Araluen NSW the same general area where the O'Connells were living. Michael Naughton does not seem to have gone to Araluen for the gold mining and I suspect his family are relatives of the O'Connells. I think Michael's mother maybe Catherine O'Connell.  Do you know if anyone down the O'Connell line has DNA tested?
