    Hi,

    Thank you for your message.

Unfortunately, it may be difficult to find information on the family if you do not know where they originated from. Most Irish record sources- church records, land records, census records- are based on specific locations. Until you know a specific location within Ireland, preferably a parish or place name, it may be difficult to do anything more with these records.

Do you have any documents (official or unofficial) that mentions any place name-a townland/parish/village/town? Once you have this you will know which records are relevant to your search.

Perhaps you could try doing a search for her father in Griffith?s Valuation. This was a land survey carried out in Ireland between 1848 and 1864. Although it doesn?t offer any genealogical information it can sometimes be used to tie a person to a specific place. You can search these here:

Do you know the names of any siblings she may have had that remained in Ireland? If you do, you could search for them and her father in the 1901 and 1911 census records online. Here is the link:

Another website which can sometimes be useful is www.familysearch.org . This is a huge database of genealogical records that has been compiled by the Church of the Latter Day Saints. If you can find some record for a member of the family it will probably give you a parish name also.

Some other websites which you may find useful are:

The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/

The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx

The National Archives UK ? genealogy search: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/

The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm

I hope that this is helpful. Once you have a place name more avenues of research will open up to you. Remember to post nay new information that you find. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

    Kind regards,
