Hi all

I was excited to find my ancestors on the 1821 Census - in the townland of Fortel

James Parland, aged 48
Catherine Parland, aged 38
Michael Parland, aged 19
Pat Parland, aged 15
Honor Parland, aged 16
James Parland, aged 12
Ellen Parland*, aged 8 - my ancestor
Catherine Parland, aged 4

Is there any way to map exactly where in the townland their house would have been?  They were at house no. 43.

Ellen Parland married William Toole (O'Toole)  before 1840 and had their first child (Kate) baptised in Kilcoman in 1940.

They emigrated to Australia in 1842 aboard the ship Woodbridge.

Regards,

Karen.

  • Hi Karen,

    This link shows Fortell/l
    https://www.townlands.ie/offaly/ballybritt/birr/dromoyle/fortel/

Between Birr (previously known as Parsonstown as the Parsons lived at the Castle) and Kinnitty.    As it was nearer to Birr this is where the registrations would be.
House number 43 would be the 43rd house in the townland. To find the exact spot is diffficult  as there isn't any additional info. in the Cenus
    BUT,
    this link................

    Baptisms annd Mariages.

If you had done this last  month I was in the area then I would have counted the houses for you.
I will be back there next  year.
I hope this is a help, but please come back for more help.
