DAVID GREEN·FRIDAY, JANUARY 1, 2021·

Dear Ireland XO Group,

Thank you for inviting me into your Group. I have been searching earnestly for information on a relative born in Ballyadams, County Laois, Ireland. I’m hoping that his birth info will lead me to info on his parents, my GG Grandparents. I have basically used only Ancestry.com so far and Find A Grave.  Here is what I know so far:

Patrick Green b 1 Dec 1840 Ballyadams, County Laois (oldest child) son of John Green b 1820 and Mary Hogan Green b 1819 (parents place of birth unknown to me)

John Green b 21 Jun 1844 French Park, Roscommon,

Parents and two sons, Patrick & John, emigrated to New York, arrival 18 Sep 1850, Port of departure Limerick, Port of arrival New York, NY, ship name Wasdale

They moved to Greenwood, Steuben County, NY and parents had a third child Nellie Green b 21 Jul 1852, Greenwood, Steuben County, New York.

I have the burial sites of all three children of John and Mary, but I cannot locate where John and Mary were born as I mentioned above, nor where they are buried.

I have a very brief death notice that Mary Green died in St. Charles, IL d 10 Oct 1901.

John Green apparently died in or near Greenwood, Steuben, NY in 1855, when Nellie was a toddler. Nellie’s obituary mentions that her father died in 1855 “back east.”  She was living in St. Charles, IL at the time of her death.

Please let me know if any of you can locate some information about Patrick Green born in Ballyadams, Laois, and any information about his parents John and Mary Hogan Green.

Thank you,

David G. Green

  • Hello David,

It would be helpful to see the sources you have for the various dates you give. For instance, do you have the baptismal record from Ballyadams? Or is this info from a headstone inscription? Headstone inscriptions are not always accurate.

It's unusual that a couple in the 1840s would have children born in Laois AND Roscommon. The places are not near each other. Of course, if John was in the police or military service, that might explain it.

If you have any questions, please contac me at glanvil3@aol.com.
