I have been trying for years to find information about my ggg grandfather, Patrick Keelin. All I know about him is he came from Ireland, and his son John was born in Virginia or Kentucky in 1845. So I'm assuming Patrick left Ireland before the potato famine?
John's mother's name is Mary Smith, from Virginia. I haven't been able to find a marriage record for her and Patrick. I also can't find any census records for Patrick or Mary.
No one in our family knows anything about Patrick. I would love to know more about him! One of my cousins mentioned the name used to be spelled Kealin, but I haven't had any luck with that either.
If anyone knows anything, or could help me find out, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi Tara,
There are 9 Patrick Keelins born 1825 + - 5 years on www.rootsireland.ie/
However, I notice on ancestry that there are a lot of trees which have Charles Keelin marrying Mary Smith 1841 in Michigan. One of their children is John KeelAn born 1853 in Michigan.

Hello Col,
Thank you so much for your reply. I went to the rootsireland website, but since I don't know the names of Patrick's parents, it's hard to say which one might be him.
The Charles Keelin and Mary Smith you mentioned, in Michigan, sound like they could be it. Maybe Patrick's middle name was Charles? I couldn't view the trees because I'm not a paying ancestry member right now :( .
As far as John, I have his death certificate, and it says he was born in Virginia. I found him on 3 census records, and one says he was born in Virginia, and two say he was born in Kentucky. I'm not sure which of these is the most reliable source of his birth location.
Thank you again!

My pleasue Tara.
I can't upload the ancestry info to this page but can send to an ordinary email if you feel OK about providing one.
I searched rootsireland for Charles Keelan born 1820 + - 10 in all counties and got 2; Charles KEELIN 1827 Cavan and Charles KELLIN 1830 Antrim
Irish genealogy is a frustrating pursuit Tara!

Thank you Col! And yes it is very frustrating! I have some other branches of the family tree traced back to the 1500's, but my Irish line only to 1845.
Any info you could send would be great. My email is taramp79@yahoo.com
Thanks again! You are wonderful to help.

Thanks again! Yeah I didn't do all the research myself, quite a few distant relatives worked on that line. I'm so glad the English kept good records of everything!
