Great grandfather Patrick McGeiver - also sometimes spelled McKeever/McGeever listed as born in Dublin 1876 to 'Patt McGeever b.1844 of Mayo and Jane McGeever b. 1846 of Wexford' on 1881 census. I've hit a block in following this side of the family to their origins in Ireland. I'd love to know more as my mum was adopted and we lost all connection with our McGeiver story (and lost the name too).

Could you recommend any books that I could read to get a sense of what their lives may have been like in Ireland at that time? During the 1800-1870s it looks like the sides of my family were in Mayo and Wexford. It seems like the place Patrick was registered - 35 Sandwith Place would have been quite difficult conditions. His mother's birth being registered in 1846 too, I can't begin to imagine how difficult carrying a pregnancy and surviving through childhood years during that time.
