I have been trying for some time to find birth and marriage records for Patrick Murphy and Hanora Shea, parents of Michael Murphy (b abt 1845), who married Mary Connor on 21 February 1871. In Michael's marriage record he is described as 'of Fermoyle' and I know from our family's 'historian' that the Murphy's came from the Glen, nr Ballinskelligs. I also know that Michael's siblings were John, Julia, Bridget, 'Pats', Catherine and Hanora.

I have checked various on-line databases and records and, as I am often in Ireland, am happy to seek permission and make an appointment to see parish records, but am at a loss to know which church to contact. Any help would be gratefully received as we have come to a full stop on this branch of our family.

  • Hi Patricia,

rootsireland.ie has a record of the marriage of Patrick Murphy and Honora Shea in Cork 1841.

Patrick and HOnora have a child Michael in Cork 1853.

All the other siblings are there also.

rootsireland is a pay site so it will cost for the records but the children should show up as free pages.

I couldn't find a record for Michael Murphy marrying Mary Connor.

The Qunlan tree on ancestry has TIMOTHY Murphy marrying Honora Shea & that both were from Bonane Kerry.

  • Dear Col,

Thankyou SO much for this and I'll check out the information. I had a tiny idea that the family might have a Cork connection (but living family members have always asserted that their ancesters are Kerry through and through!). Hopefully I can now make some more progress.
