I am trying to locate the birthplace of one of my mother's ancestors.  I know that Patrick Walsh was baptised on April 10, 1858 per the Killeenadeema  parochial register of baptism.  His parents were James  Walsh and Bridget Walsh(Sheehan).  Is there anyway to locate the birthplace or town where they lived. I checked the census and found a few possible matches, but none that seem right(Patrick would be 42-43 at the time).

I am visiting Ireland soon and would love to visit the area where my family is from. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Brian

I found this family in the 1901 and 1911 censuses in Bookeen townland (misspelled as Booreen in the 1901). Note the oldest son is James (after his grandfather?) and there are two maiden aunts who could have been younger sisters to Bridget Sheehan. What do you think? I was not able to find Patrick.

  • thanks Roger. That's a good find. Unfortunately, other than James and Bridget and Patrick, I don't know any other relatives.

I don't know how old James or Bridget would be, but Patrick was approx 43 in 1901.So James and Bridget would have to be in 50-70's.  Patrick may have been in America at the time, so he may not show up in the census.  It seems that these names are quite popular and I found a number of husband/wife James/Bridget with a child named Patrick in the census, but I don't think they are the right ones.

I can't find anything online, but it seems I can order micro film through the Mormon Church and may be able to find the actual birth records.

RC records for Killeenadeema are available starting in 1836. It looks like the records are available on Roots Ireland which is a pay to see site. www.rootsireland.ie

You may want to look for a John Walsh born around 1860 to the same parents.

  • Thanks Roger. I was able to locate at least where three of the other children from the family lived on the1901 census,  house 4 in Shrahaunanta (Kilteskill, Galway).  My mother had said she had always been told they had lived in a place called Sharon antha(phonetically).  We never actually knew the name.  I googled Shrahaunanta and could not not find anything on the map.  If you know, is that a neighborhood?

The census lists it as South Galway.  Poor Law union: Lougnea; electoral division: Kilteskill; townland: Shrahaunanta.

Any ideas on where that might be?  Thanks in advance. You have been extremely helpful!

I have the spelling as Srahaunananta. It looks like Anne found the John in 1860. I think he is the one in Bookeen in the 1901 census.

  • Yes. Thanks. I was able to locate where Walter, Thomas and Bridget lived in the 1901 census- that's the Srahaunananta location.
