  • I have found a copy of a marriage certificate for my mother "Loretta May Morrell" who married Michael Dennis O'Neill (longshoreman) in Saint John New Brunswick 1952.  Michael Dennis O'Neill lists Marion O'Hagan as his mother's maiden name. and his father's name is Ernest Michael Dennis O'Neill.  On the marriage certificate it lists him as 29 years of age.

  • Mike I've searched lots of sites but didn't have much luck finding your people I'm afraid.

He may have been born in one of the counties for which the records are not available such as Kerry or Clare

I couldn't find a marriage record for Ernest & Marion anywhere; there are a few O'Neills to O'Hagans but no Ernests or Michaels or Denises or Marions!

Here's the only Marion O'Hagan in the 1911 Irish Census of Ireland. She is a boarder but is RC & the son's marriage cert says C of I

OHagan Marion Clanbrassil Street Dundalk Town, part ofLouth age 26 Female; that would make her 33 when she had Michael

I'll see if I can get Roger McDonnell (another volunteer) to have a look to double-check

  • Mike:

Like Col, I could not find the Ernest O'Neill/Marion O'Hagan either.

The surname O'Hagan was/is mainly a Co. Louth/Co.Down surname but also found in other Northen Ireland counties plus Dublin. O'Neill is mainly a Northern Ireland surname.

I looked at the 1901 census and there were two Ernest O'Neills in all of Ireland. An infant in Co. Antrim and a 16 year old in Co. Cork. The Ernest in Cork was from a Church of Ireland family. Unless his name was spelled differently in the 1911 census, he was not in Ireland.
