Hello - I am trying to trace my grandfather Richard Corish. I have searched the online records but have found 3 Richard Corish's born around the same time and in the same area of Wexford. My mum Philomena emigrated to England in 1951 and she sadly died in January this year and I can find no details of my Irish relatives in her records.

What I know for certain about Richard is that he was married to Mary Hore on 24 April 1918 in Wexford and they had 6 children, my mum Philomena, Gertrude, Evelyn, John, Joseph, and another daughter whose name I don't know. I beleive all of the childrean are now deceased. My Grandmother Mary died on 24th July 1981 in Wexford town. My mum was born in 1933 and her birth certificate states "Wexford, Ballyteague"

I only have an estimate for Richard's birth date and based on that I have found some census records but it is unclear which Ricahrd Corish is which! I beleive the most likely candidate is Richard Corish born in 1892 to Thomas and Elizabeth and showing as living at House 11, Bargy, Grange, Kilmore, Wexford on the 1901 census. He then shows up again in the 1911 census at House no 4, Bargy, Grange, Kilmore, Wexford.

I really need to find Richard's grave (he died in the 1950s) as I woudl like to inter my mothers ashes with or near him if I can and would very much like to contact my realtives about this. I would also love to find out more about my family and am hoping to come over from the UK in spring next year. I attach the only photo I know of of my granddad. Any help or clues anyone can give me would be really appreciated. Many thanks. Lorraine

  • Hi,
This link is from find a grave. There is a Getrude, a Josie and others in Crosstown Cemetery, appears they didn't marry.

I noticed in the 1911 Census Richard Corish has his Mother in Law with them, her name was Harpur. This is their marriage

Use this site, the Richard that died in the 1950's is in there.

Work backwards and you will find more info.

In familysearch.org site they have births up to 1958, they also show the mothers maiden name.

  • Hello Margot - I've since discovered a lot more and unravelled the 6 Richard Corish's who were born in Wexford within a few years of my Granfather Richard. What I now know through researching death certiicates etc is that My Grandfather Richard Corish died in February 1955 in Bridgetown, Kilmore, Wexford and was burried in Grange Cemetery, Kilmore, Wexford. I have been in touch with the local Parish priest and they cannot find a listing for him in the cemetery details. It does seem that Grange cemetary is the Corish family plot as there are many other Corishes there.  I have been in touch with the local authority who say that I need to find the owner of the grave to get permission to inter my mothers ashes - I have put a notice in the local parish newsletter and still not heard anything. I have been told that if the priest confirms that the owner of the plot can't be identified, I may be able to get permission to inter her ashes - the cemetary is closd and has been for some years although i understand it is accessible for visits. When C19 restrictions permit it, I am intending to visit the cemetery to try to identify where my grandad is buried. If you or anyone else on this forum can help/advise further I'd be really garteful to hear from you.

    Many thanks
