My great grandfather, Robert Francis Loane,  was borne in Dunboyne on 23 March 1855, however I have been unable to find any record of his birth.  I found a marriage record of a Charles Loane and Hannah Georgina Bowes who married in Dunboyne in June 1854, but can't find records of any children. Robert emigrated to New Zealand aged about 20.  Any assistance regarding his parents would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Linda

  • The marriage of Charles and Hannah took place in the Church of Ireland (United Church of England and Ireland) in Dunboyne, and as far as I can see Church of Ireland baptism records for the timeframe you believe Robert was born are not available online. (Registration of births started in 1864)

Very early records for the parish do not survive but at appears that at least some baptism records are available from 1822 onward , they are held in the Representative Church Body Library in South County Dublin and also on microfilm in the National Archives in Dublin City.  Due to the lack of early records for the parish, tracing Charles and Hannah back any further than their fathers could be difficult if they were also from Dunboyne.  From the 1854 marriage record it appears that Charles was a widower, so might be worth checking for a possible 1st marriage for him in the same area - civil registration of non-Catholic marriages started in 1845.
