Hi all Through matching of various names and dna matches on ancestry I’ve found a good lead and connection in the Ryan / Raleigh family Of limerick. A very helpful member called Mary helped me a great deal and now I’m just trying to piece together the last big mystery. The 2 strongest links are sisters Catherine (Kate) Ryan and Johanna Raleigh Ryan whose lines continues on to matches for my grandmother pat. The match is of 4 - 6th cousins. Catherine and Johanna's parents were Edmond (Ned?) Ryan and Ellen Raleigh. The theory is Mary O’Shea b 1872 ( parents John O’Shea and Annie O’Connell) had a illegitimate daughter also called Mary born in 1897 in kanturk And that the fathers last name was Ryan. My grandma was 1897 Mary’s daughter. I was just wondering who do we think Mary’s ‘Ryan’ father was? Should I guess at maybe one of Johanna's and Catherine’s brothers? Or maybe a generation back? I’m not sure on the dates a generation back and quite a few of Edmond and Ellen’s children seem to have died quite young as the names repeat themselves, also Considering the O’Sheas were from cork and Ryan’s from limerick. Just wondering if anyone had any guesses or thoughts. Edmond and Ellen’s children - They had thirteen children, all born at Knocklong, County Limerick: Patrick, Johanna, John, Patrick (2), Mary, Johanna(2), John (2), twins James and Timothy, Catherine, James (2), Timothy (2), Ellen. The children were born between 1850 and 1867. The repeating names suggested that at least five did not survive infancy. ( Johanna (2) and Catherine are my strong links on ancestry) Thanks all Best Kerri

  • I have Rayleigh and Ryan ancestors from Knocklong, Limerick. Edmund Ryan (1816-1886) & Ellen Rayleigh (1824-1887) were married about 1850. Their daughter was named Johanna Rayleigh Ryan (1856-1933.) She immigrated to the United States about 1874 and married Greenbury Mongold in about 1879. They lived in Illinois for about 25 years, raised six or more children, and then  moved to Independence County, Arkansas, where they lived for about 25 years, and then lived the remainder of their lives in Springfield, Missouri. Anybody searching Ryan or Mongold?
