Looking for information on Samuel Moore who was landlord for the townland of Lisreagh in County Cavan.  My Fitzpatrick ancestors lived in Lisreagh for generations.  Any information would be helpful.

  • Hi Maria,

Samuel Moore appears to have been a British Army Captain. There are two addresses - Cullies 1837 and Farnham Street, Cavan - 1845. He was also a Justice of the Peace which gave him a judicial role in relation to minor offences in Cavan.

He died in Farnham Street on November 7th 1848.

He is recorded in Lisreah, Lisreagh, Cullis and Cullies in the Tithe Applotments 1826. You will also see Fitzpatrick in Lisreagh.

Please see attached: Tithe Records 1826 - Slaters Directory 1845 and Pettigrew's Almanac.

  • Maria,

Attached report in the Anglo-Celt newspaper dated December 1st 1848 regarding the death in Farnham Street, Cavan of Samuel Moore J.P and his wife Frances.

Griffith's Valuation in 1857 records a Samuel Moore, so I assume it was his son who took over.

Please see attached in relation to Land Registry Services - Republic of Ireland.

    Best Wishes,

    McCoy

  • Thanks for information.  I did find more about the Moore family on a site The families of French of Belturbet and Nixon of Fermanagh which gave brief family history for four generations back to 1771  Again thanks
