my family came to the U.S. sometime in the mid 1800's. i believe they came from kilkenny. the farthest i have been able to trace back is Walter Ryan born 1829, and Margaret Tobin born 1832. i believe the were from thomastown kilkenny but i"m not possitive. i would like to find any family left in that area if possible. i want to visit ireland soon and i"d like to see where my family came from, and meet some if possible.

Roots Ireland www.rootsireland.ie has an 1829 baptismal record for a Walter Ryan in the Thomastown RC records. No Margaret Tobins in 1832. There is 1 Margaret Tobin baptismal record in 1831 and 3 in 1833 but different parishes than Thomastown. I was unable to locate a marriage record for them on Roots.
Roots is a pay site to view transcriptions of church records.
There are a number of Ryans in Thomastown in the online Irish phone book.
