My ancestor, Hugh Allen, the son of Richard Allen and Margaret Sweeney, lived in Great Umberstown, on the edge of the Dangan estate, and attended the church in Dangan, Summerhill Parish. He and most of his siblings emigrated to the U.S. in the 1850's, leaving only a single brother, John Allen, and sister, Catharine Allen Byrnes. Catherine's children cared for John in his old age- he was still on the farm in 1911. Catherine Allen Byrne's family lived in Clonmahon and she was also alive in 1911. Searching for relatives in Ireland- there were other Allen and Sweeney families attending the church in Dangan, and offspring of Catharine's children Thomas and Edward Byrnes, (who died in Summerhill in 1937) may still be in Ireland. Hoping to find relatives of my family still in Ireland and also have extensive information to share on those who emigrated to America.
