Hello,
I am trying to find the origins of my 4th great-grandmother, Mary Catrie, and 4th great-grandfather, Henry Shirk. I find them in Virginia USA in 1754 and saw one reference that Mary Catrie or her family was from Laurencetown and one reference that Henry Shirk was "an Irish immigrant."
Can anyone tell me where to look or provide any other information? I am planning a trip to Ireland in May 2015 and would like some leads on my ancestors. I will appreciate any help I can get.

I couldn't find any record of Catrie on www.rootsireland.ie/ (which charges)- no birth/baptisms, marriages or death/burials! The records start about 1700 - 1720 There were a few Shirks including 1 in Galway but not Laurencetown & much later than your Henry
ancestry.com has 183 trees with this couple some of which have Henry born in Hardy Virginia 1754 to Abraham Sherk & Margaret Lentz However they have Abraham born 1750!! in Bethel Lebanon Pennsylvania.
Abraham's father was Casper born Sumiswald Canton Bern Switzerland!
His father was also Casper born 1657 same place
They also have Mary Catrie born 21 April 1754 in Bedford but no parents
There are no Shirks or Catries on Family Search, www.irishgenealogy.ie/, any Irish Census or Griffiths Valuation. There are no Catries but 2 Patrick Shirks in Tipperary in the Tithe Applotments (1823-37 & free) but no year is given with the record.
Maybe you'll have to nick over to Switzerland after you visit Ireland Ginny!
