I am seeking information about a family with the surnam Londra who settled in the Liverpool area in the 1880's.  One of the children Jean Londra born in the 1900 period married a man called Arthur Watt.  The marride took place in West Derby/Everton and they where married in September 1929.    Jean sadly died in the early 1940's having had two daughters Jean and Mary (known as May)

 

Any information would be of great interest to me and my family.  Jean Londra would have been my grandmother.

  • The surname Londra is not very common in Ireland. It seems unique to a couple of townlands in Co. Mayo, at least going by the 1911 census.

    I can?t see a birth registered for a Jean Londra, in either England or in Ireland, though there are several other Londra births around that time in Ireland (Ellen, Bridget, Mary & Rose), and 3 in England (Mary, Patrick & Martin). Do you know Jean?s father?s name (should be on the 1929 marriage cert)?

  • I dont have access to the marrige certificate as yet.   I believe that there where a number of siblings a sister called Mary and brother Patrick.   I can see a birth certificate three years later than that of Jean Londra for Patrick (died same years 1912)   with a mothers name McDonough a Martin Londra 1913 (died 1980) with the same mothers surname,

  • According to Jean Watts death certificate she was 35 when she died on 11  September 1944, so born in 1909, I assume she was born in England.

    Would it be possible that her full name was Mary Katherine ?  born first quarter of 1909 in Liverpool

    Her brother ?

    Birth Jun 1912 in West Derby, England, United Kingdom

    Death Dec 1912 in West Derby, Lancashire

    Parents Martin Londra and Cahtherine MacDonough

     

    Parents married (Martin and Catherine) in

    Philadelphia, Delaware, Pennsylvania, USA on 3rd May 1906
    Father Martin died August 1927 in Liverpool

    You might have to look in the USA instead of Ireland :)
