Researching ancestry of my ancestor William John SIMMONS born 1852 Ballyweather, Wexford. Parents were John SIMMONS (son of William) and Mary COFFEY (daughter of Bartholomew) married 1846 at nearby Killurin, Wexford. Think the SIMMONS family were long established at Ballyweather.

  • Hi Kym,

Tithe Records for Ireland 1823 to1837 - www.nationalarchives.ie - has a William Simmons farming 20 acres in the townland of Court Clogh, Parish of Castle Ellis and Diocese of Ferns in 1833. There is also a John recorded for Ballywether.

Griffith's land valuations c1853 has the following in Ballywether townland, Civil parish of Kilbrideglynn, Barony of Shelmaliere West, Co. Wexford:

Sarah, Junior, Sarah, John, Junior, John, Senior, Henry. There is no record of a William.

You can access those records at  www.askaboutireland.ie/Griffith's Valuations. Both Sites are free.
